Brilliant, After Breakfast

A documentation of my discoveries in the wild.

Trigger Behind the Scenes: 1 of 2 jib shots and the martini shot (last shot of the shoot)

We were using an Arri Super 16mm camera that didn’t have a monitor tap. Since we couldn’t see what was happening in the frame, we blocked and rehearsed heavily. We measured for focus and at the start and end of every take we would check the frame to make sure we landed the shot.

I’m really proud of my crew. This day was the first time we used the jib on set. This particular jib shot was a bit more complicated that the establishing shot we got. But we really came together as a team and figured it out how to execute the shot (though we had no way of knowing what it exactly looked like yet). When we got the footage back and saw that we succeeded (for the most part, ha!), there were so many exclamations of joy and excitement.

Film is so magical!
